In all seriousness: we would never have expected such amazing success when it comes to our employer branding. Riding the wave of success from the Red Dot Award 2016 and the iF Design Award 2017, we have now been bestowed the German Design Award 2018.
The German Design Award is the top international design award presented by the German Design Council. Its goal: to discover, present and recognise unique design trends. Every year sees a range of cutting-edge products and communication design submissions take centre stage that can all boast a degree of influence in their own right on the international design landscape. Knowing that SP Cream Cards is part of that club fills us with a great sense of pride.
Let’s turn the clocks back to the summer of 2015: Temperatures were sizzling. So warm in fact that our CREAM, the Schindler Parent Creative Team, were not tucked away in a snug 37°C conference room, but were rather situated in the building’s comparatively cool underground garage to ponder how the mouse grey SP company handbook could be transformed into a modular, easily updatable and continuously expandable on-boarding tool for new members of staff, which wouldn’t just be informative but would also harness something of the creative-conceptual-cultural spirit that characterises our place of work. Of course, we wanted to produce something that should scoop up awards. But there’s nothing new there (even if we don’t necessarily announce it so unequivocally).
The fact that this project – as something we ultimately delivered after a test phase one Saturday in January in a nicely heated conference hall for this time of year (19 creative prodigies on one day in one room – something we covered in a previous report) – radiated a certain charm was also captured by our own printing shop. And given that all those visiting our premises would have actually been more than happy to take these cards with them as ad cards (which unfortunately was not allowed given that our corporate guidelines also contain internal affairs), we have now developed them as postcard-like ad cards.
Of course, it feels great to receive such a positive critique by an authority on the subject such as the German Design Council. The German Design Award demands nothing but the very highest standards from its award winners: During a complex nomination process the expert committees formed by the German Design Council only invite those products and communication design services to participate in the competition, which have clearly set themselves apart from the competition in terms of design quality. All prize awards are decided during a two-day jury panel meeting. The German Design Award is split into two categories – the Excellent Product Design and the Excellent Communications Design – in an attempt to adequately reflect the inherent versatility of product and communication culture. Every single competition category awards its top performers with either Gold, Winner or Special Mention.
Our SP Cream Cards were awarded the Winner prize for the category of Excellent Communications Design. We are proud of that.
